To clarify, these cars are my personal favorites and have nothing to do with any statistics-based criteria or any other fancy numbers. They are just badass.
Number 10 - Ferrari Testarossa (1991)
Beginning production in 1984 and named after redheads, this 4.9 L, Flat 12 powered doorstop cruised up to 180 mph using all 385 horses found under its hood. With the 0-60 of a BMW, this car may not be the fastest on this list, but when driven by James "Sonny" Crockett, who cares?
Number 9 - Lamborghini Diablo SV (1999)
The Diablo, the "devil," despite originally beginning production in 1990, its 1999 "facelift" made it just that much better. Removing its iconic flip-up headlights and increasing its power to 510 hp, the SV was the perfect concoction of '90s Italian supercars with just enough modern tweaks to make it onto this list. The Diablo's 6.0 L V12 managed to bring this car from 0-60 in just 3.6 seconds, topping out at 215 mph.
Number 8 - Mercedes-Benz 300slr (1955)
This car may be a little low on this list for some people, and I understand that. The most expensive car ever made and one of the original supercars, the 300SLR is truly a masterpiece; however, it is still a Mercedes. Powered by a 3.0 L straight-eight, this car managed 180 miles per hour with 310 horses, making it the fastest car available at the time it was built.
Number 7 - Ferrari F40 (1988)
If you thought the last one was low, I am really getting in trouble for this one. Look, the F40 is iconic. It is THE Ferrari, and I specifically chose the 1988 because that is the year Enzo died (and took Ferrari with him). My only issue with this car is the sheer cliché of it. It has become what Lamborghini was to middle schoolers. Not necessarily overrated, but overindulged if that makes sense. Nevertheless, all 478 horses and 201 miles per hour this car produces will always be in my heart.
Number 6 - Lamborghini Miura SV (1971)
The Miura is essentially the father of Lamborghinis, the first mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car, and it is beautiful. By 1971, the Miura got rid of its "eyelashes" and managed to push 385 hp out of its 4.0 L V12, driving it from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and topping out at 180 mph. Essentially the same as the Ferrari Testarossa, only about 20 years earlier.
Number 5 - Ford GT (2006)
The Ford GT is by far one of my most favorite cars ever produced, and the Mark 2 is 100% on this list. The main reason I included the 2006 edition is the sheer commitment from Ford to produce a modern beast that embodies the original so closely. The modern GTs are beautiful in their own way, but with a V6 and whatever body shape they came up with, it's just not the same.
The 2006 Ford GT came with a 5.4 L SUPERCHARGED V8, putting out 550 hp with one version reaching 310 mph. THREE HUNDRED AND TEN!
Number 4 - Porsche 917K-71 (1971)
In 1971, the Porsche 917K-71 stood atop the finish line at Le Mans for the second time after having won it the previous year as well, before going on to win 15 more times across a 23-race spell in the World Sportscar Championship. This truly unique car that reminds me of a speedtail produced 572 hp and could reach 248 miles per hour. Best of all, as seen at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this contraption can be made street legal. Too bad they go for nearly $14 million.
Number 3 - Ford GT40 Mark 2 (1966)
I told you she'd return. The GT40 alone is already one of the greatest cars ever produced; every inch of it is nearly perfect. I chose the 1966 out of respect for Ken Miles, a driver who helped produce this incredible machine and who was killed by it in 1966. With a 0-60 of 4.2 seconds, a top speed of 205 mph, and 485 hp, this car comes with everything you would ever need to beat Ferrari.
Number 2 - Jaguar XJ220 (1993)
Just take a moment to appreciate the beauty of this car. Practically more artwork than machine, this car is just as impressive as it is gorgeous. Its twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 can produce 542 hp, reach 217 mph, and go from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. As if its looks and power weren't enough, the XJ220 made its mark in history by breaking the record for the fastest production car ever produced for 5 years straight.
Honorable Mentions - DMC DeLorean (1982), Honda NSX (1999), McLaren F1 (1993)
All of these cars hold a close place in my heart. They are all beautiful, powerful, and important to the car community (except the DeLorean maybe, I just like them a lot.) For personal reasons, I did not find them fit for this list, although they still deserve recognition where possible
Number 1 - Saleen S7 (2010)
In 2010, Saleen took home the first-place spot in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, putting America first and essentially Ford as well. Invented by Steve Saleen, a former Mustang tuner, this car is the embodiment of the American spirit. It is mean, it is powerful, it is fast. The S7 had a 7.0-liter V8 that produced 750 horsepower, could reach 248 miles per hour, and went from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, the fastest on this list. Not to mention it has butterfly doors.
